Chungjin, a port city located in North side of North Korea

Chungjin, a port city located in the north side of North Korea, is a place where there is active economic activity. It is a city with geographical advantages of trading with Russia above, China off the coast on land, and Japan across the country, and has similar characteristics to South Korea’s port city “Busan”

Chungjin-si, which used to be just a small fishing village, rapidly grew into an economic city when the port opened in the 1900s.

Chungjin-si is also famous for producing artificial fiber because it has a lot of underground resources, including coal mines, steelmaking, and chemical factories.

Since Choengjin-si is surrounded by mountains and seas, they have developed fishery and timber industry. Also they have developed chemical and iron(steelworkds) industry that led to fiber manufacture and production

As a result, it has rapidly grown into a commercial city.

Najin Seonbongsi, the only open city in North Korea, was also a jurisdiction belonging to Chungjin. It is also the only open city in North Korea where many foreigners around the world can freely travel.

Through the port, Chungjin City actively trades with Russia, Japan, and China, exports specialties from the Buksan region, and imports electronics, clothing, and processed goods in reverse.

Starting in the 2000s, Chungjin-si-si has become a key place as a wholesale market, and like the current Dongdaemun Market, they started wholesale trade goods from all over North Korea.

As the market grew, new rich people emerged, and more people relied on the market, which naturally created capitalism.

North Korea has been growing into partial capitalism country. No matter how much the North Korean regime intervenes and imposes sanctions, the market has always existed, and the scale is growing.

A beautiful city, Chungjin, is a good city to visit at least once in a life time. I recommend you to go there once they open the door
